2D screen is a game changer

I have only used the Manticore 3 times now at different sites I've previously smashed with a Nox 800. At each site I've detected finds with the M'core I've somehow missed with the Nox. The 2D screen makes it easier to decide to dig or walk away & the non ferrous trace makes it obvious when your over a potential good target. Early days but I'm happy with the purchase & look forward to learning the machine's full potential.

First Hunt with the Manticore

For the first hunt with the Minelab Manticore I chose an old cricket ground that has been hunted many times by me and others. The place is littered with all kinds of trash such as pull tabs, squashed cans, boot sprigs, foil, the dreaded squashed bottle tops etc. There are other challenges at this place with EMI being pretty high with all of the stadium lighting and water pump equipment under the ground. I started out in All Terrain General, quick noise cancel, ground balance at zero, recovery speed at 5, sensitivity 22, 5 tones, headset on. My first target was a squashed bottle cap but my second target was a crisp 73 through the trash with a round target trace and bingo a 1943 rams head shilling. The first thing I notice is a lot more information through the headset. I started concentrating on the target trace as I wanted to see how well it dealt with squashed bottle tops, which give of pretty good coinlike signals on the EQX . I dug a couple of caps and small coins and notice that the target trace really helped by smudging around bottle tops. So, with that in mind I left those high tone targets smudging on the target trace. I have a lot to learn here but it seems very effective. All in all I spent about 4hrs there and produce very little trash really. I collected 1 shilling, 8x2c, 5x1c, 2x5c, 3x10c, 3x20c, 2x$1, 3x$2, lead bullet and a junk ring. Compared to the EQX 800 I notice better separation and depth. Maybe the depth is due to better unmasking. After 4hrs it was very comfortable to use both the unit and the headset, I just got worn out from digging the treasure! Anyway great first impressions and I cannot wait to get back at it.
